Major flaw with current gun laws are that they affect the haystack and not the needle. The needle is causing the problem.

Primary shortcoming is the lack of punishment for use of a gun, or any sort of violence, in a crime. Lots of punishment for the violators of "administrative rules", like Shaneen Allen. but not so much for knocking a woman unconscious, like Ray Rice.
Perhaps less the problem with laws as written, and more with how they are enforced.

All our "gun laws" are rooted in racism. The laws of the South in Reconstruction that specifically controlled Black ownership of weapons (even dogs and canes) had to become general laws that SEEMED to apply to all, but were only enforced on Blacks, not Whites.

Wow! Where did you come up with that. Just a hint. Whenever you see the words "All", "Always", "Every", "Everybody", and others that imply all inclusiveness or universal application, proceed with caution. You're in the Propaganda Zone

CPT Jack Durish - Point taken. But that "racism" extends from those anti-Black "gun control laws" to the "Sullivan Law" aimed at the new immigrants from Italy by the
existing crime syndicate of NY (ethnic hatred?) and without very much of a stretch to the "liberal" hatred of all that is "conservative".
They wish to disarm, and so control, that which they fear.

CW3 Harvey K. - Just don't confuse "liberal" with "leftist".

CPT Jack Durish - Never do, Captain --- hence the "quotation marks". I like to think of myself as a "classical liberal", before the connotations of "socialist" crept in.
