Thank you for posting this -- really interesting & something I'd never even heard of. In the 1950s, Americans in the west could tune in to "The Pacific Coast Service of Radio Moscow" which was primarily the U.S.S.R.'s version of international news (I recall how West German rearmament really upset them). U.S. Soldiers stationed in West Berlin often had their AM radio (AFN & Radio Luxembourg) jammed by the East Germans.

SPC John Parmenter If It Occupied Any Part of the Radio Spectrum the Folks I worked with and I Listened In. Too Include the Stupid Crap on Radio Moscow and Voice of America. I've Listened into a Phone Call Between Fidel Castro and Daniel Ortega and a Phone Sex Session between a Marine in Rota Spain and His Wife in the States (Always Assume You are Being Listened Too) Hell Even after We Explained the Tricks of the Trade to the CHENG/TAO, He was Silly Enough to Stand Next to One of My Antennas and call the Wife on the Cell Phone. Yes We Listened in on the CHENG.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Yeah, on one ship we nailed our AOPS (a former CTO) giving out future port call information to his wife on a cell call. The funniest stuff IMO was Radio Pyongyang.

MSgt Jason McClish You'd Never Break the Code but we would always do a little practice Direction Finding to Locate the Transmitter.

MSgt Jason McClish - I Like Radios and Antennas and I got to use More than Most People can Conceive Of. Even had some Open Purchase Radio Shack Equipment.

Good stuff! Used to listen to numbers stations all the time. Especially the female voice ones doing five number or letter groups. After a few months at sea, they started to sound kinda hot....LOL
Occasionally we'd DF them. We would get some interesting cross fixes sometimes.
