3-0? Who the hell did he beat?

We had a boxing team at my base in Iwakuni, Japan........and our light-heavyweight fighter was reputed to be the best in the Westpac theater. I saw him in a boxing smoker against a team from a ship that was in port......and he dispensed with his opponent in less than a minute. I saw him one more time when an Army team came in to box against our team. His opponent looked very muscular, like he was chiseled out of a block of granite. I remember several of us saying, "oh oh......looks like our guy is gonna get his tonight." The bell rang, both boxers danced to the center of the ring, and our guy threw a right hook that landed flush on his opponent's cheek.......he fell to canvas like a sack of potatoes.......and got counted out......just 5 seconds into the fight. I kept expecting to see him in professional fights in later years, but never did. Maybe he had a glass jaw himself......because he punched like he had a sledge hammer inside his glove.

One of the favorite boxing stories was about Tony Danza of Taxi TV fame. He used to box and invited some TV executives to watch him box. In the second round Tony got clocked. He remembers waking up in the shower. Tony figured getting knocked out probably wasn’t a TV career enhancer. Well it turns out Tony had fought another round and knocked his opponent out. Danza decided he didn’t need to box any more.
