He has bankrupted his corporation six times due to too much debt. He is also using more debt to fund the country by cutting corporate taxes. He expected more capital investments and production but lower prices and higher demand for goods is what drives the economic train.

The trade war likely isn't helping anything though I suspect there are some global factors at play that mean the overall medium-long term trend is likely to be downward for the US regardless of the actions of any POTUS.
