Republicans were accused of trying to attach "poison pill" amendments to a bill on female veterans health care after they stormed out of the House Veterans Affairs Committee on Tuesday.
GOP committee members were filmed leaving a hearing room by Stars and Stripes reporter Steve Beynon after Chairman Mark Takano stopped debate on their proposed additions to the Deborah Sampson Act, a decision Republicans later called "partisan" and "shameful."
California Democrat Takano suggested that he stopped the debate because Republicans were trying to introduce "toxic, partisan amendments" to a bill that aimed to improve health care offered to female veterans at VA medical facilities.

Would it have been better had the committee simply voted on the proposed amendments? They would not have passed in a committee vote, so the result is the same.
The right thing to do going forward is offer those amendments on the floor.
And have a long memory. If this is the way Congress wants to do business, I will duly note that next November.

Wow! Riders attached to a Bill ~ strange behavior ~ doesn't that happen once it hits the floor rather than in the committee?
Bill got passed thru the committee (not through Congress) anyway. Now comes the fight on the house floor, then approval/non-approval, then either shelved/or to the President for signing into Law. After that the Supreme Court has to say if it passes judicial review.
I swear - good bill or bad bill - I think Congress thrives on the controversy.

Who cares if the hack job offering his version of a telephone conversation is a veteran or not? In this case he’s not being Criticized as a military member, he’s being criticized as a political hack. If he wants to role himself up in the flag in an attempt to gain credibility that’s his business, but it cuts no ice. PO1 William "Chip" Nagel

These news reporters need to go back to school to learn how to report actions. Debate was stopped and they left the area, saying they “stormed out” implies they stopped the procedure. They can’t report it both ways. Reporting like this is why people don’t trust any news organizations any more. As far as some of the items they were discussing: I never saw any item wheee it was too frighting to debate honestly. It appears the committee was afraid they were losing the debate... so they pulled the plug. Disgusting!

I don’t know enough about what actually happened to speak about what was actually said or what was proposed. All I did was point out inconsistencies in what was reported in the article. It would be nice if we could believe what is reported, but unfortunately in today’s world we can’t; we have to wait until we have definitive proof the sky is blue... and then someone will point out, not when there are clouds.
