Maj Kim Patterson - It gives them proximity to Australia, Philippines, and Japan, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon islands. In WWII one of our main efforts was to protect Australia and her shipping lanes. Now the Chinese own Port Darwin in Australia for 99 years. Some Australians don't understand the strategic costs and importance to defend her.
