SSG(P) (Join to see) I won't disclose my personal details, but I will say this, in my opinion the VA is a high quality, veteran caring and fair treatment system. But I am currently being a banshee with the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham NC concerning a service through the Prosthetics Department. This is the hang nail. The VA has contractors servicing some of their big ticket treatments. Some of these contracts gave loop holes whereby the VA can be sued by a contractor if they take corrective actions through an alternative source. Additionally, there are circumstances where the VA financial services are investigating some of the charges for outside services and finding those charges to be thickly padded. I don't think this, I know this from my current issue. So there are scenarios from many different angles, SGT Anonymous, that actually put the veteran in the middle of a bad contract negotiations. In my situation, we are trying to get to a fair resolution, because I am in the middle of a contract snafoo between the VA and the Contractor. The VA Health Care System is the best resource for veterans, regardless.

SGT Nathan H. Barnicles us the correct description for the union piece. As for the contractors did you know if the VA takes an obvious corrective actions because of a contractor, the VA can be sued. This is the loop hole in my case. Evidence showing negligence and incompetence 4 times and my son paying out of pocket to correct it and asked for reimbursement we have been told "no" because the contractor can sue the VA for breach. And the contractor told me they were not going to reimburse my son. They made 4 pair of glasses that don't work and the VA paid for them. My son took the same prescription to Walmart and had them made and they work just like I was sitting in the exam chair. But they are going to make them a fifth time. WHO IN THE VA BROKERED A WORTHKESS CONTRACT TO THE VA SND THE VETERAN, BUT THE CONTRACTOR IS GETTING PAID TO JAM US ALL UP.

SGT Debra Campbell your experience is the same as mine. I've had a lot of time to pay attention to the environment. Large majority of the providers force unnecessary testing, delay treatment that resolved the issue until they have billed for a year and they allow other related conditions to become worse then note the problem as emergent, some providers refer to Care In The Community as insurance. Too many veterans do not recognize the red flags until they gave invested so much time only to find they are no farther along in recovery than they were with the issue. Bad VA employees and contractors need to be gotten rid of so the system can work.

It sounds cold, but if he didn’t pay his required portion, why is this unexpected? Additionally, VA coverage isn’t 100% for everyone, in every single instance. A lot of it can depend on service connections, income, length of service, type of discharge, etc.

The VA gets sh*t on alot, but if they don’t cover something (particularly something high profile like this), there’s probably a reason for it.

After reading your post I got a different perspective! There could be a reason for this and we don’t have all the facts! We always try and see the best in things and hope that something bad like this would never happen, especially to a fellow Veteran! Thanks for your post!

~1251535:SSgt Dawson Webb] the needs are astronomical, and the system is saturated. This is not a cop out remark; my 4 year old son at that time 27 years ago were homeless and hungry. There was no program for homeless veterans. Now, there is. Until you experience the private sector medical system, you will not appreciate the VA Health Care System has good care and protections for us. There are too many people holding positions of responsibility that should not be in them.

Request a sit down with the Director, Chief of Staff, it Patient Advocate if your treating VA and calmly discuss your concerns

There is too much bureaucracy in the VA system, and too few of them have also served in the military.

SSgt Dawson Webb yeah, bad experiences do weigh heavier in the mind and experience than good experiences. My experience with Naval medicine and dental care was exceptional. But that was 30 years ago.
