There's a lot of crap going on in Virginia surrounding Monday's pro-gun rights demonstration at the state capital. The Virginia Citizens' Defense League (VCDL) has always held a pro-gun rally at the start of the legislative session each year, where members and others lobbied their General Assembly members. Under the rules, persons with Concealed Handgun Permits were allowed to carry in the Capitol. No incidents ever occurred. Over the years, Virginians' gun rights were expanded by Republican majorities in the General Assembly and by Republican governors. This year, with Democratic majorities in both houses and an anti-gun Democratic governor, the anti-gun rights elements saw their chance to limit Virginian's gun rights and they are attempting push through bills to do just that. Of course, this raised a furor everywhere except the heavily urban parts of the state, which have long voted Democratic, and the 2A sanctuary movement gained traction. This year, VCDL wanted to hold their rally to protest the Democrats' anti-gun actions, and a lot of people are going to be there. The vast majority will be peaceful citizens, but right-wing and left-wing extremists are taking advantage to be there and stir up trouble. So the fact that threats have been made (and sensationalized) against legislators doesn't surprise me - they are the epicenter of what's happening right now. Of course, the governor and his Democrats saw this as a threat and declared an emergency, banned legal carry from the Capitol, and the liberal media (i.e., almost all of them) started portraying the pro-gun demonstrators as a bunch of low-brow, primitive troglodyts - many low-information consumers of news accepted this (especially if they were already pre-disposed to view gun owners that way) and that's all we hear and read. If the Dems push through their anti-gun agenda, there will be a lot of non-compliance and defiance in Virginia. Interesting times!

That’s an awfully long comment to say nothing at all about the particular story in question

Ah, wait, I stand corrected, you did touch on the threats. Most sincere apologies, I simply missed it. My fault.

I would never trust a socialist/communist. Especially with putting them in the legislature.

SFC Thomas Foreman we’re talking about two different people? The man in question in the article to my knowledge hasn’t threatened anyone.

Le sigh. Leave it to the Brits to not know a single iota about US politics. The bill was not misunderstood. Bills against the 2A were pre-filed last fall that Northam promised to sign. In response, law enforcement chiefs across the state refused to uphold the new gun control laws. In response to that, Carter files HB 67 JANUARY 8th, 2020. The claim it is not about firearms is downright ridiculous. And a lie.

"Any public safety employee who, in concert with two or more other such employees, for the purpose of obstructing, impeding or suspending any activity or operation of his employing agency or any other governmental agency, strikes or willfully refuses to perform the duties of his employment shall, by such action, be deemed to have terminated his employment and shall thereafter be ineligible for employment in any position or capacity during the next twelve 12 months by the Commonwealth, or any county, city, town or other political subdivision of the Commonwealth, or by any department or agency of any of them."

This is not a revision of a previous law to make public officials in VA ineligible for reelection. It is a direct response to local pushback over the 2A.
