He is switching the onus of regulation to self regulation by companies. I am sure all companies will always do the right thing.

MAJ Ken Landgren - No means no. I'll play the game: Maybe the environmental can improve with self regulation. This could be a true statement, right?
Do I personally believe the environmental will improve with self regulation? Probably not. We rely on just about all professions to self regulate from: medicine, to manufacturing, to engineering, food preparation, to everything, don’t we? Federal regulators very rarely get out themselves, so I guess the way I look at it: the actual operating procedures for a good 90% of regulated actions in our country (MHO) is a combination of self regulating (reporting) and states performing our monitoring activities when we can. Like it or not, that’s how it works, or sometimes not, most of the time.

SFC (Join to see) - I have read around 90 EPA rollbacks, and I personally feel that self regulating will be more detrimental to the environment. The deregulation of EPA is across the board and will facilitate further pollution of our lands and waters.

MAJ Ken Landgren - The deregulation of EPA? EPA is pure regulation. I tried my best to explain how federal regulations works. Guess I failed. All I will say more is: I don't believe you are really understanding the overall process.

1SG (Join to see) If you really want to know, it just doesn’t make a difference. People don’t understand who really does the work, so it’s easy for unscrupulous news outlets to report what actually happens out of context to get more people excited and/or dump on the Administration. The states already are the ones who monitor and enforce this type of work. Depending on what and how severe a violation may be depends if the state will call in the federal authority, or take care if it ourselves. I can talk and give classes about different topics like this for days, just not enough room here, and people arn’t really interested in all the nuts and bolts of permitting anyway.
In the case of this article, it appears they are just talking about reporting requirements. They don’t provide enough base information in the article to render an informed opinion about what’s happening, but they want it to be vague... and juicy!
