I have reason to believe that my wife, two grandchildren and I flew with this Seal Team from McGuire AFB to Ramstein AFB on a C17. We were waiting for a Space-A flight when the counter P/A announced that the owner of the next flight, noticing that there were families waiting and trying to return to Germany after school vacation, would take us with them BUT we could not speak to anyone or take photos of anyone or anything on the flight. "Owned the plane". I thought that the USAF owned the plane. We got on the bus and were told to sit in the rear. These big rugged guys got on filling the front of the bus and the one in charge ordered the same restrictions in a very serious command voice. We were in a row next to the last sets of the troops. "Who are these people?' my wife whispered in my ear. "Look like Special Forces to me" - being an army guy. I whispered to the guy next to me: "Special Forces"? "Hell no, we're Navy!" "They're Seals, Hon." I whispered back.
WE had to wait until they got aboard and settled in before we were allowed on board. The middle of the C-17 was stacked with military gear and there was a camouflaged rocket boat sitting there on a trailer with visible "Helo" hooks. There was lots of whispering going on among the PAX. Our two grandchildren ages 13 and 15 were fascinated by the whole event. We fly a lot and my wife always bakes a biiig batch of cookies or brownies for the crew so by the time we got to Ramstein, a crew member let it slip - a Navy Seal Team on their way to hunt pirates - we, of course, knew where that was. When the "take-down" made it into the news, we felt proud to be on the mission. Our grandchildren had quite the story to tell in their school when that made the news. Later came the film and we could see the re-creation of the mission.
PS: The reason that our grandchildren could fly Space-A was that their mother was deployed and we were their guardians.
