APOD: 2020 June 19 - The Veins of Heaven

Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "The Veins of Heaven." Our old friends noctilucent clouds (aka NLC or polar mesospheric clouds) make a repeat appearance today in this image from Denmark. NLCs are understood to form as water vapor driven into the cold upper atmosphere condenses on the fine dust particles supplied by disintegrating meteors or volcanic ash. The NASA web site on the APOD page is worth a peek if you'd like to see your best chance of catching a glimpse of NLCs for yourself. A fairly broad patch extends into Central Europe for those deployed in that neck of the woods. Best bet for North America looks like Washington State and British Columbia. Who knows? We might get an APOD submission from a budding Chopistani scientist some day.
