Fake news, clearly written by an intern bent on virtue-signaling. The writer overlooks the following:
38 U.S. Code § 1533. Children of Civil War veterans
38 U.S. Code § 2306. Headstones, markers, and burial receptacles
Both grant status of American veteran to both Union and Confederate soldiers through the granting of pensions and care of burial sites.
I understand you may not like the law. I suggest you quit hiding behind your keyboard, run for office, and change it.
Let the down votes commence.

CPL Joy Downs Hart - Sorry,
But you are painting a very large group with that brush. You think that every person that Served in Vietnam wanted to go? Do you think that they deserved the shame that was placed on them by liberals that pick and chose what to report or see?
Not ALL Confederate soldiers hated America, a large group were not educated enough to even know what the war was about or who they were fighting for/with. Some fought with the knowledge that if they did NOT fight for the south, they would be shot by the south.
Quite a lot of their officers were graduates of Annapolis and West Point.
They are NOT heroes but do NOT deserve shame.

CPL Joy Downs Hart - In many cases, they were defending their families and homes. A lot were poor dirt farmers who had no vested interest in slavery.

CPL Joy Downs Hart - Explain to me what you found wrong with my previous statement. You gave it a thumbs down so I assume something was wrong with it? Or is it just hate of people with different opinions? As to not forcing you to fight for hate, I do not know if you are referring to Vietnam or the Civil War but neither drafted females. As to those that fought, many did NOT know why, they fought for their friends and families.
