Using executive orders to establish price controls sounds a lot like socialism, doesn't it? Certainly isn't free market capitalism.

SSG Robert Perrotto - I don't care if it is a small part or a large part. The fact is that it is the very same socialism people scream about when they carry on about how socialists will destroy the country. I am merely pointing out the disconnect and how the people that scream the loudest about "Marxists" and "Socialists" don't seem to have a problem with it when they benefit.

As far as your earnings and what you give to the government, how do you think we can afford such a massive military, spending more on "Defense" than the next 11 countries combined? Now I know you will argue how defense is a shared cost specified in the Constitution, but so in the general welfare. Many people that pay taxes would rather their tax money go to helping Americans rather than killing foreigners and building foreign countries. You apparently benefitted from peoples' taxes for a number of years before you retired. It always surprises me that people who went into the military that pays for food, clothing, housing, medical, and dental, not only for the service member, but their dependents, with taxpayer money, can scream about "socialism" and high taxes.

Everyone wants a great country. No one wants to pay for it.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - thats a bunch of bovine fecal matter - as I pointed out, we already pay, on average, 30% of our income, before all the other taxes, to support the social programs already in place, nearly 1/3rd, so the question is not that we don't want to pay for it, because we already do, but how much of our labor should go to supporting these social programs. Our property taxes support the school districts (how it is distributed is a different argument), sales tax, alcohol/tabacco (Shared by local/state/federal) taxes, DMV plating and licensing go to local/state government - so, when is it enough? That 10-20% tax hike means the difference between the middle class, and the poverty level, so now you have added to those that are dependant upon the system. thus placing a larger burden upon those that are above the poverty level (mind you Poverty level in the US is 31x greater then the Global poverty level). That is not to mention that businesses will transfer the extra taxes they have to pay to the consumer, thus making things more expensive, or in the case of large corporate business, they move their operations out of the country, sure you can tax them, but you will lose out on payroll taxes, Job growth, and individual buying power, the lifeblood of a healthy economy.

SSG Robert Perrotto - I certainly would be interested in seeing your reference on how that math breaks out.

Pure socialism, and I guarantee you that the Trump cult members will be explaining why this is a good thing. Do you know what you have when you have a national leader who is a demagogue, a nationalist, espouses socialist programs, has identified groups of people who are "enemies" of the state (such as immigrants, protesters, anarchists, etc), who aligns with dictators, and believes in conspiracy theories?

Capt Gregory Prickett - Probably because it was clearly a rhetorical question? Or because it was hyperbolic soapbox ranting? Take your pick.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Something similar to the "I have a phone and a pen, and if Congress won't act, then I will..."?

PO3 Mark Johnson - correct, because that was also unconstitutional. It does not matter which party purports to do it, the President cannot legislate by Executive Order.

Of course, one of the major differences is that no other president in our history has suggested canceling or delaying elections. What's he going to do on January 20 if there are no elections? Violate the Constitution and stay in office?
