Excellent question! I'm all for women in Combat Arms if they meet standards. I am not for trying to force their hand to make a report sent to congress look good.

Choice seems to violate diversity "standards" or regulations. There will never have equity when people make individual choices by not choosing a regulatory path. It's like women and STEM degrees; if there isn't enough women in STEM fields who are we to challenge the choices they made for their chosen career paths?

Unless there is a perceived Bias, that might make them feel like they would not be able to get as far in their career by choosing Infantry.

People make choices. Choosing the path of least resistance is still a choice. The only barrier to individual happiness is the mind. If a person allows other peoples' opinions to dictate their path, that's still their choice. People's opinion on my choice not to go to school nor the poverty in my youth stopped me from becoming a successful software developer. Overcome... Adapt... Persevere...

If women want true equality in the Marines, the option of choosing 0302 should not be an option. I dropped an aviation guarantee because I found at TBS that I loved the infantry training and being in the field. Aviation candidates were being told that they would get a handful of flight hours a month and their real job was actually the collateral duty they held.

But in my IOC class, there were 2ndLts who were not happy to be there. They put in their top three choices for MOS, didn't get what they wanted and infantry spots needed to be filled. End of discussion.

Women will never be really equal in the Corps until they don't have an option because of their gender.
