Damn, talk about a mark up.
Having been watching the process for my accident, medical billing is a weird deal. I had an M/C accident, suffered a Tib/fib fracture, and 4 broken ribs. The Tibia was messed up requiring a plate and screws.
The bill for surgery and my 3 night hospital stay came to be just under $148,000. USAA covered the first $10k, them BCBSTX negotiates the rest down to $56k.
$56K seems reasonable to me. The $148K not so much.
With the link, this Physician has a test completed that the materials cost $8, okay roll in the Doctors time, another $500. Total $508, not the $10K+ that was billed to insurance and paid in full.
Oh, and I am thankful I did not have to rely on Tricare.
