Long ago, when I was in 5th grade, the teacher asked the class to think of what they would do if they had magical powers to do good in the world.
A little girl replied "I would make all the guns in the world disappear, and there would be no more wars or murders". Several of her fellow students refuted her "solution", demonstrating that bombs, knives, even hammers would still be available for war and crime.
It's amazing, but many adults today cling to that childish notion of a "simple solution" to crime and violence of all kinds -- just get rid of the guns, and all will be well.
