Coronavirus has now contributed to the deaths of more than one million people worldwide.

The report of the millionth death arrived on Tuesday, just short of 10 months since the first confirmed death, in China in January.

The virus is continuing to spread across the world, with more than 30 million confirmed cases in 188 countries.

The word "contributes" is the right one to use here. It hasn't been the primary cause of death for most; those who have fragile populations are/were clearly at most risk
