Since 1946, Paralyzed Veterans of America has been on a mission to change lives and build brighter futures for our seriously injured heroes. We’ve had a single-minded mission—to empower our brave men and women to regain what they fought for: their freedom and independence.
Paralyzed Veterans was originally founded by a band of service members who came home from World War II with spinal cord injuries. They returned to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the major challenges they faced.
These wounded heroes made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization dedicated to serving veterans—and to medical research, advocacy and civil rights for all people with disabilities.
Our talented team of executive leadership and staff experts is centrally located in Washington D.C., with branches across America, leading research initiatives and providing invaluable resources and professional services to catastrophically disabled veterans, their caregivers, and their families.

Veterans with spinal cord injuries need all the help they can get... When I was hospitalized at Keesler AFB Hospital, years ago, there were two Airmen with spinal cord injuries... One was a Paraplegic and one a quadriplegic. The quadriplegic was 7X24X365 in a striker frame and could do nothing for himself... The Paraplegic was in a modified striker and had some movement and seemed to adjust... There was a third airman who fell asleep at the wheel driving long distance back to base and started out as a quadriplegic, and was told that was how the rest of his life was going to be... I used to feed him meals and became friends with him and He was a fighter, and by the time I was released from the hospital 7-months later, he was walking with crutches... God was beside him for sure... Thank the Lord for organizations like Paralyzed Veterans of America.
