I am going to go against the grain. America and the west has sworn enemies. There is only two options , fight until you win or capitulation. Capitulation involves submitting to Islam. We may leave Afghanistan but those fighting jihad won’t leave us. I told some one we may need to be in places 30, 40, 50 years. Afghanistan does have strategic value. Look at a map. Who in the region will give us bases or allow operations? The other point is, you don’t always occupy a space because it is strategic to you, some times you occupy it because it is strategic to your enemy.
