Yesterday's Thoreau quote came from this Commentary on Civil Disobedience. It was tossed my way in a response, from one of the Others, as if He thought I'd never heard of it. This was part of the curriculum in a subject called "Civics", where we were taught the dangers of Big Government, that used to be a part of every child's 3 Rs. Maybe He grew up too late for that class.

I actually had never read Thoreau until college. I graduated HS in 2007. Luckily, I read civil disobedience in American lit I and again in American philosophy. In graduate school, I specialized in colonial through 19th century American literature as one of my three specialties and read the entirety of Thoreau's Walden. Definitely something everyone should read at least once.
