Accurate article. I was there 11-12 and it was the same then. Nobody in the states or for that master the pentagon has ever really cared about Afghanistan because there is no answer there. It is not really a country but rather a bunch of tribes and clans that had a line drawn around them back when they made the map to tidy things up. It will never be a functioning country and will never respond to anything Kabul says.
Afghanistan shares much with Burma and Italy of WW2.....placeholders to other actions, never fully funded or manned and no real solution to be found, no heart to win and too scared to loose.
