Maj John Bell Migrants become Immigrants, what they think they want when they set out, often once in a news place changes. Technically, by your definition, many of what we call illegal immigrants are really illegal migrants.

That isn't completely true. The USA is a beacon of hope as long as the economy is surging and jobs are plentiful. The ones who come here don't really care which party runs the Country.
After 2007, many of the legal and illegal immigrants that came here from Mexico and other Countries returned to their Countries due to lack of work. I wouldn't be too surprised to learn that many returned home this past year as well.

MSG (Join to see) Which goes back to something I said somewhere in this train that if the jobs weren't there the people wouldn't come as much. If employers stopped hiring illegals there are no jobs to come for. Unfortunately our economy couldn't sustain that concept.

The only reason folks here hire folks to work undocumented, is for their employers to circumvent minimum wage, workman's comp insurance, holidays, vacation, sick benefits and time, taxes, social security, etc. and other benefits ANY worker in America regardless of status deserves to get in return for their work. It helps people who are often already millionaires and billionaires (yes I am quoting Sanders) to make billions more annually. It has nothing to do with votes or ethnicity/race. It is nothing but a labor struggle, no different than in the days of yore where they abused the scabs' desperation to undermine the unions. The more are here, the cheaper and the more desperate they get. Many certainly do well by comparison with having stayed home. But many cannot even afford to go back (see the many efforts by non-profits seeking to support undocumented families during COVID-19). If they get caught, they get deported for the mere misdemeanor for working illegally, whereas no one goes after the employers who actually commit a litany of local, state, and federal felonies. Them getting deported often even saves their employer from paying what little they are owed. All this is, is kow-towing to the already filthy rich, so they can make more money. No one cares about the migrants/immigrants or the American worker. Not even the so-called "American Socialists." It's all about cheap labor and making the tax payer (i.e. the documented workers) pay for the incidentals and all the (often false) promises. For example, most public health care schemes make the workers pay for their and that of the undocumented workers' health care (be they legally in the country or not, some statistics indicate most undocumented workers are actually legal residents) and largely if not completely relieve employers, who should be paying for it all (it's them who benefit from a healthy worker after all), of the burden. To get a picture of the conditions many migrants/immigrants have to contend with, just drive up to any of the trailer parks in the middle of the California desert (with no potable water sources) and other ghettos where they are forced to live in squalor, and you can see for yourself this is nothing but the usual BS. Both parties are guilty for allowing this to happen for so long (What, they can't institute a proper guest worker program?). I think every successive generation of politician gets further and further removed from actual reality and can't see the mess they are creating for the money stuck in their face.
