Vaccine nationalism is when a country prioritises its access to vaccine supplies above everyone else. John Denton, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce, warns of the harm that the uneven distribution of vaccines will do.

"By... locking up vaccines in the global north, they [governments] are actually hurting the ultimate process towards ending the effect of the pandemic globally."

He estimates that a failure of governments and manufacturers to work together could cost the global economy nine trillion dollars.
