Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Sun Pillar with Upper Tangent Arc." We've seen sun dogs, moon dogs, and lunar halos featured here. Now a sun pillar? A sun pillar is caused by sunlight reflecting from wobbling, hexagon-shaped ice-disks falling through Earth's atmosphere. Upper tangent arcs are known to be caused by sunlight refracting through falling hexagon-shaped ice-tubes. But both of them together? Truly extraordinary. Thank goodness for the handy smartphone!

Thank you for this morning's APOD, Maj William W. 'Bill' Price! In the Sun pillar with upper tangent arc image, it looks like a golden martini glass with a long golden stem... Overall great share, Bill!!!

Great picture. Along the same lines, we had absolutely magnificent sundogs yesterday about 30 minutes after sun up. Sun Great Danes would have been a better description. I was driving so I did not get a picture.
