Earlier this morning I posted a video about the mind blowing tasks ahead for the Perseverance Rover, which is a phenomenal piece of science technology! One of the tasks scheduled is the conversion of Mars atmosphere, which is mostly Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into CO and O2... This video delineates the actual science of how the "Gold Box" will provide this conversion process...
It should be noted that this is a fundamental test to determine the feasibility for converting the available atmosphere into Oxygen for multiple uses, not the least of which is for human breathing, as well as a native fuel for man's return to Earth from Mars... It is all about the future and much depends on our success rate on this mission...
I believe I posted this a year ago, but it is a great explanation of what to expect as this becomes a reality on Mars!

One of the most critical tests when looking forward IMO. Testing soil and taking pictures is great but if we ever want to put man on Mars we must be able to produce O2. If this experiment doesn't work its back to the drawing board and a significant delay.

Agreed, Jack... I went back and pulled the detail so that everyone understands what, how and the importance of this test...for those who may not understand the why...
