This year marks the 15th anniversary of Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC).
Created on February 24, 2006, MARSOC is the Marine Corps' component of US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and is composed of the Marine Raider Regiment, Marine Raider Support Group, and Marine Raider Training Center.

I reported to MARSOC on February 25 in 2006. It was definitely an interesting time. I heard the arguments on both sides, both impassioned with equal vigor. The original CG of MARSOC was very adamant about maintaining MARSOC's ties with the MEUs as he looked ahead to see what is happening today with the GWOT tapering off and missions drying up... but maintaining the relationship was a strain on the MEUs themselves and, if I recall correctly, the hard tie to the MEUs was dissolved not long after General Hejlik turned over command.
