I really like the OPORD format to communicate the mission and the execution. It is pretty detailed.
OPORDs are a common template.

SOPs can help as it often reduces the need to communicate.

Listen to your subordinates. Let them speak freely. Sometimes in training meetings an NCO will for another COA. I would look at their eyes, their face, and listen to their voice. If they spoke with passion I often relented and concurred with them. I wanted them to have passion, and I wanted to reward them.
