When the news broke regarding this war crime, it was the straw that convinced to
go from support of the war to opposing the War and eventually resigning my commission, dropping out and joining the hippie “back to the land” movement.

It would take an 11 year break before I re-enlisted in the Army Reserve at age 47 and finally retiring at 60.

SGT (Join to see) Horrible event! I went to the same Battalion... Alpha Company in 1970... two years after it. Lt. Calley ended up spending 3 years in prison... but all Veterans were branded as Baby Killers... even those who hadn't served in Vietnam. That was also a travesty we all paid... for many years.

When I enlisted in 1979, the Army was still not looked upon favorably. It took a while for the all volunteer Army to change public perception. SGT (Join to see) 1LT Peter Duston

Calley actually served those three years on house arrest in his BOQ at Ft. Benning,.I was in C/3-1st Inf. in the 11th LIB the same time you were there. You should join the U S Army, 11th Light Infantry Brigade Facebook group. We have a number of folks from all of the 1-20th's companies at various times: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ [login to see] 22726
