The most important part of the article concerning this investigation was the cause of the sinking. That leaves many questions of either a maintenance or operations issue. I'm sure the Col. could not be on every landing craft to ensure proper operation. However, maintenance can be traced because generally if there are issues with one craft there will be similar issues with others. Up to 3 years ago, I knew the CWO5 in charge of maintenance of these landing craft and he ran a very tight ship then. It had always been the old adage in Corps “We have done so much for so long with so little that we can now do practically anything with nothing." Supply of parts for many things has always been an issue. It was that way when I was in 40 years ago, and from some that I know currently serving, it is still the same today.

Why the MEU Commander? Company makes sense. Battalion maybe, but MEU?
That's like firing the Division Commander for something a PFC in some random squad did, or firing the Vice President because PFC Joe Nuffy got a DUI.
There are so many degrees of separation here....
