Russia turns back U.S. military convoy in Syria confrontation

Reading between the lines, this sounds like sour grapes at the Russians being technically correct at both levels. On the ground, our guys got turned back while trying to go somewhere in Russian-controlled territory without coordinating ahead of time, and nobody started shooting. The Russians are historically sticklers for rules, but I suspect our default answer to wayward Russian convoys is also "Go home."
And at the diplomatic level, the Russians are also technically correct: regardless of the importance of defeating the Caliphate, we've been invading Syria for a decade now with no formal declaration of war against the recognized government nor with the consent of the that government.
