I would agree that the Pope didn't go far enough. But, according to the article the Catholic church ran these schools for the government. I would think the Canadian government is also culpable. IMHO

Maj Robert Thornton she went to residential Day School in the city. She had to wear a uniform and stood separate from white people and he was hit with a ruler if she misbehaved which freaked the white kids out. She may be entitled to a settlement. Those who went through residential school or averaging $40,000 per person. My wife's grandmother remembers a girl who was a bed-wetter and disappeared never to be seen again.

LTC (Join to see) - My wife went to Chilocco Indian School in the early 60's.
Funny story (in a way)
She and a friend decided they did not want to stay so they packed some food and took off, intending to walk back to the reservation. 980 miles! They were 12 years old.
They got picked up 2 days later, tired, hungry, but safe.
Brave girls.
