I think we almost looked at them as Marines who didn't go through our recruit training. Certainly gave them the same respect as a fellow Marine.

Doc was Doc! S/He earned the right to hang with us, tease us as we teased each other, boss us around, and more. They were ours, and we were his/hers. I even watched as one of our "Docs" out shot everyone in our Company on the Miles Gear courses.

Somewhere along the way in boot camp, our DI informed us that if we ever encountered a Corpsman when we were on liberty, his money was no good. All Marines present were to pay for his drinks.

Why don't the Marines have their own Marine medics ? The Army does and It works well.
