Journalists are not, have never been, and never will be models of ethics and morality. Indeed, the best of them have been long moldering in their graves. Once upon a time they had some standards rigidly enforced by equally hard nosed, hard drinking editors. Funny, but reporters didn't gain any respectability until they began appearing on television where their more egregious picadilloes would be displayed. Funnier still, is that as they gained respectability, they abandoned their standards. Editors couldn't correct words once spoken. (Interestingly, I see similarities with "celebrity chefs". Kitchen staffs occupied the lowest rungs of the social ladder, somewhere below vagrants, until television layered them with a patina of fame.)
