We used to go watch these with my Mom and Dad every year when they lived in Berlin. Had a great spot on a second floor balcony over at the commercial harbor - and it dodged the Route 50 bridge traffic once the fireworks were over!
Knowing where the fireworks get set up, I’m betting most of the pier and boardwalk got rattled when it blew.
