On the six-month anniversary of the deadly U.S. Capitol insurrection, Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman shared the changes the force is implementing to bolster security in the Capitol complex and support its officers.
"We honor all the brave men and women who, against all odds, faced down a violent crowd that day and protected our elected leaders and everyone who was in the Capitol Complex," Pittman said in a statement released Tuesday, six months after a violent mob of supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol as lawmakers were fulfilling their constitutional duty to tally the Electoral College votes of the 2020 presidential election.
Pittman said the Capitol Police have been working "around the clock with Congressional stakeholders to support our officers, enhance security around the Capitol Complex, and pivot towards an intelligence-based protective agency."
Included in the list of "improvements" the Capitol Police have implemented in the wake of the attack are enhancing member protection, boosting staffing in the Dignitary Protection Division and opening regional field offices in California and Florida to investigate threats to lawmakers.

Why are the Capitol Police opening regional field offices in California and Florida to investigate threats to lawmakers? Isn't that the job of the FBI?

Because right wingers are daily making threats to the democratic office holders. Especially the women, "cuz men's are so insecure", and they think women are easier targets. The capitol police function is actually to protect our electeds.

First, I take exception to using the word “insurrection”, to my knowledge no one have been accused of this crime; while the use of the word is inflammatory. Second: I need to ask why are Capitol Police being given all the special resources being mentioned when police forces around the Country were rocked almost all of 2020 with rioting, burning, theft, rape, and God knows how many other crimes night, after night, after night? The Capitol Police beat back one attack and are now being coddled, they need to get the right people in the right job, or maybe just realize “people will do what people will do”. Our politicians need to stop thinking “they” are so special, and need to start thinking about who they are hurting from their actions. I’ll stop now before I bore you too much.

You comment is vastly uninformed. For starters, the capitol police are not being funded for extraordinary efforts, they are being furloughed due to the insurrectionist Republicans who refuse to raise the sums, or even recognize their bravery.
