Unless there is more, I'm not seeing how the mere possession of weapons translate into aggravated assault.

"He was facing two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon without a FOID card"
$10,000 bond amount for those two charges and release on bail with just $1,000 .

SGM Erik Marquez - "The charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (also known as Agg UUW/Veh/Fir/Loaded/No Foid or Agg UUW/Person) is a very common gun charge in Chicago and throughout Illinois. The law can be found under 720 ILCS 5/24-1.6 [12474] [12476] [15729] [12477] [15730] [13535]. The name of the offense can be misleading as it suggests that the suspect used the weapon in some dangerous way. Quite simply, a person is guilty of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon if they knowingly possess a firearm, while in a public place or public road, and the gun is loaded, uncases and immediately accessible at the time of the offense."

SGM Erik Marquez - The article stated, in both the headline and the text that it was "aggravated assault", saying that "Mr Casteel was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and was ordered by a judge to be held on a $10,000 bond."
If the actual charge is "aggravated unlawful use" I can understand the charge. My comment was based on what the article stated (or more accurately, misstated).

Capt Gregory Prickett - Sir yes I understand you were providing comment on what was printed, vice what I found to be the truth.. No issue on your response at all.
You were skeptical on the "charge" reported and as reality shows with good reason. Thanks for saying something that encouraged me to look further.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I believe the Housekeeper is due a promotion to the Front Desk.
...."Investigators interviewed the hotel guest about the weapons found in the room.
"Out joint terrorism task force officers debriefed, interviewed this person along with a companion, and we are continuing this investigation," Mr Brown said.
Mr Casteel was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and was ordered by a judge to be held on a $10,000 bond.
“I understand through the state’s proffer and your attorney that you have permission to possess the firearms in the state of Iowa,” Judge David Navarro said. "However, clearly, we’re not in Iowa.”
Mr Brown said Mr Casteel does not have a criminal record. An investigation has not revealed why Mr Casteel had the firearms and ammunition in his room.
The deadliest mass shooting in US history involved a gunman storing a large number of weapons in a hotel room overlooking a crowded tourist destination.
The Mandalay Bay shooting in Las Vegas in 2017 resulted in 60 deaths and 411 injuries. Steven Paddock, the shooter, used more than a dozen AR-15s in the attack and fired out of the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel onto a concert happening across the street."

A misleading headline, which almost all media does.
According to other sources, the man had a handgun with extra magazines and 1 rifle with 5 loaded magazines. That is reason for concern and the police were correct in investigating. However, it certainly was not a "room full."
I get tired of misleading headlines.
Google his name. Keegan Casteel
