CPT (Join to see) - It's a P-3, No 1 Meter, 3 Ft Antennas on the Underside and the underside of the wings, that is a Sub Chaser and Not a Spook Plane.

CPT (Join to see) - If It Looks Like a Porcupine it's a Spook Plane and Has Spooks Like Me on it.

SGT (Join to see) - It's a P-8A Recon Aircraft so I would say it was doing Signals Intercept.

SGT (Join to see) - You're Right and Wrong! Good Try! The P-8 is the Sub Chaser Variant that is Recon of Sorts but Signals Intercept is the World of CTs Like Me. EP-8 is the Signals Intercept Variant The E stands for Electronic Warfare, Intelligence, Spying, Reconnaissance. What to Look for is the Porcupine Effect, If it looks like a Porcupine with Antennas sticking out it is Signals Intercept and the Crew is Mostly Cryptologic Technicians "Spooks".

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Makes sense... the porcupine description. So, what is the P-8"A" & how does it differ from the P-8?

SGT (Join to see) P-8A would be the Latest Upgrade of the P-8, 1st Modification. A P-8 is a Sub Chaser, Hunter Killer of Submarines. EP-8 is a Spy Plane.

I am a Plank Owner to the P-8's older sibling, the C-40A Clipper. Worked on and Crewed the first seven air frames, beginning with 829 to 836. Never Crewed 36 as she was transferred out shortly after we had completed the Acceptance Inspection. Began my worldly travels on that bird. Still have my CHINESE MADE Plank Owner Challenge Coin. Very poignant since just prior to the Acceptance Ceremony for the Type/Model/Series, the Chinese hit a P-3, forcing her down onto a Chinese airstrip.
I still find the P-8s an odd sight to see. Same for my beautiful Hercs with their upgraded props and those hideous nerf dart spinners. Remember the talk (from the P-3 Community) that the P-8 engines would have corrosion problems from flying low across the water. I wonder if the high time on those CFMs are less than that of the Clippers.
