The news from Canada of unmarked graves being found on former residential schools sites where Indigenous children were sent from the late 1880s to the 1990s has been sending shockwaves throughout Canada and beyond.

Now, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland has announced an investigation into similar schools for Native Americans — like the Stewart Indian School in Nevada that operated from 1890 to 1980.
