Pure BS. If you poke the bear, be prepared to deal with the consequences. It's not my job to bail you out of your own stupid decisions.

Hope to goodness you never insult your neighbors opinion, because according to your own statement they should have the right to threaten your life and your family. Is that why you support terrorist organizations?

CW3 Jim Norris - First off Chief, I don't see how you make the jump from believing people should own the consequences of their actions to "support terrorist organizations." That is in and of itself a bit insulting. It is also a HUGE jump between insulting your neighbor's opinion and publically staging a hate rally on the national stage. I was always taught if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all... but if you do have to say something not nice, you own what you say and live with the consequences. Which is why you should always consider what you are going to say before you say it. No, no one has the "right" to threaten violence over a statement or a rally. But you should also be fully aware before you stage such rally that if you piss off the wrong people you may open yourself up to reprisals....and it's no one else's responsibility (other than maybe the police) to ensure you are protected because of it. If I choose to help protect you, that is because I made a choice to be nice. I don't owe you a damn thing. This guy was an attention whore, plain and simple. Well, he got attention alright....just not the attention he may necessarily have wanted.

BTW, if you threaten or try to harm my family, you'd better make sure your first shots take me out, because I am more than prepared to respond with overkill.

LTC Paul Labrador - One can only guess that you think that political speech that you disagree with is hateful? If you think that in this nation what someone says gives ANYONE the right to harm them, then you are supporting a terror based society. You say something I don't like, I beat you or your children or worse. Why is it OK to say or do all sort of things that Christians find hateful?- let us use the recent Broadway play that mocked the 16 million members of the Mormon faith for instance - most of whom found the content extremely hateful and reprehensible, but no one suggested it was hate speech? Why is a cartoon contest so? Oh I see, because that group will take violent action against those who dare insult them? Is that the society that you support? One in which those who will do violence control the public square? I think not. If you are not for us, then you are against us - to quote GW Bush (not my favorite president, but a recent one)...so if you are not against those who would threaten and carry out vile acts for mere speech...well then you must be for them? Occam's Razor applies.

CW3 Jim Norris -

1) "One can only guess that you think that political speech that you disagree with is hateful?" - how did you get that assumption from my post. That is a HUGE jump in from what I stated my position was.

2) "If you think that in this nation what someone says gives ANYONE the right to harm them, then you are supporting a terror based society." - Where did I ever say that? All I said is there is consequences to actions, and that it is not okay to demand others to bail you out of the consequences of your own decisions. Freedom of Speech does not equate Freedom from Consequences. However, consequences have gradation, and you are jumping to extremes. Some consequences are acceptable (i.e. public ridicule, defamation lawsuits), some are not (i.e. physical harm). Rule of law tells us what is acceptable and what is not. Mormons are totally free to verbally blast and criticize Trey Parker and Matt Stone all they want in regards to their parody of Mormonism. They are not allowed to shoot at them. Being okay with folks facing the consequences of their actions does not equate that I'm okay with the consequence for making a hateful statement being death.

While I believe wholeheartedly in the 1st Amendment, you placed yourself and your family at risk due to your inflammatory actions, so my personal belief is that you are an attention-whore and you reap what you sew. It is your responsibility to provide for your family's protection, ya might wanna think about that in the future.

Well please enlighten me then as to what it was really about? He was practicing his 1st Amendment right to Free Speech, however inflammatory and insensitive it may be, in essence pretty much the same that occurred earlier in Texas with the Draw Mohammed contest and the whole Charlie Hebdo fiasco in France.

Sure hope you never anger someone by your conduct or speech, because by your statement above they have the right to threaten your life and your family. The 1st Amendment is like every other right, of no use unless defended by the society. You don't protect your family, the police do, the firemen do, the paramedics do, and last and least often you might....if the community buys into this 'off with their heads' crap for speech (and yes a cartoon is a very prevalent form of political speech) then take off that cavalry hat for it is a symbol of the subjugation of the Native Americans and the murder on the Trail of Tears.

He placed himself and his family at risk by his actions, but then wants the tax payer to pay for his/their protection which is a crock of shit. That is what I pointed out in my initial comment on the posting...my second was in response to being told that his rally had nothing to do with the 1st Amendment, which it did. If I were to make the same or similar inflammatory comments I wouldn't be expecting or asking my fellow citizens to foot the bill to protect my family and me. As for my Stetson, I earned it and will wear it with pride as I have that right, as a matter of fact it was not even around for the Trail of Tears so anyone viewing it as a symbol of subjugation would be best served by brushing up on historical fact. And you can view protecting your family as last in the order you listed, however I protect my family first and foremost, the others are secondary.
