"That’s simply not true. We haven’t been in combat on the ground for a few years now."

To be fair we weren't in combat because there was a ceasefire agreement reached by Trump. More or less, they were not attacking us and were waiting for us to leave as promised. Had we not left, it's safe to say we would have been in combat again because we'd be being attacked.

SFC (Join to see) - Agreed. I was mostly pointing out that there was a reason we haven't seen US troop deaths lately, a reason that may easily evaporate if we had stayed.

Having said that, the planning on this wasn't great. I haven't heard too many people outside the administration on either the right or the left thinking it was. ;)

SPC Kevin Ford - It was the saddest weekend in our nation's history since the 70's. There is enough blame to go around for everyone. The final action is owned by President Biden. He is on watch now. MHO

Only time will tell. While they're both terrorist groups they have vastly different views. Taliban only wants to control Afghanistan and if they see Al Qaeda reimergance harming that they may not tolerate it. So hey, one terrorist group stopping another may not be all that bad!

You are right sir, it is a balancing act that can go either way, and very suddenly when it does.
