sadly enough here is what our command stated
Pentagon leaders said at a briefing on Wednesday that the United States military does not have the capability to help the thousands of Americans stranded outside the Kabul airport, which is now surrounded by Taliban checkpoints.
Luckily the French and British patrols that DO have the capability are bringing some U.S. folks out with their citizens.

Apparently they've been directed to maintain control of the airport and to help evacuate those WHO CAN GET THERE...not to go get them.
