Was in Kenai about a month ago and the King fishery was brought to a halt due to low counts.

Jist like the oyster... the salmon are threatened by too much fishing.

No. Salmon are one of the most monitored fish out there through government run escapement counts. There are strict limits imposed to insure that enough salmon get to spawn and return to the oceans. Climate change is changing their spawning patterns. They are less predictable in the last few years. Spawning later and staying deeper in the water as they come in which makes fishing difficult.

I was in Norton Sound this summer going after pink salmon. I made $400 in 3 months. Worst season in 20 years for our boat. The fish were there but it was a funky run. Later than normal and then we had storms roll through that our tender ships couldn't operate in. Life as a fish processor but hurt me badly financially. We ended the season in mid-August even though we normally fish into September.

Salmon are not overfished. Salmon are one of the most monitored fish out there through government run escapement counts on the rivers. There are strict limits imposed to insure that enough salmon get to spawn and return to the oceans. Climate change is changing their spawning patterns. They are less predictable in the last few years. Spawning later and staying deeper in the water as they come in which makes fishing difficult.
