Boy the right is digging deep trying to discredit something that the majority of Americans, on both sides, support.

Y’know what? I don’t care. I really don’t. And I say this as someone who grew up in poverty AND has been a smoker much of my life. Consuming tobacco is a choice, a choice that costs the public far beyond what is spent on that pack or carton. Same with alcohol. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Raise Income Taxes on the rich, not the poor.... this is to offset the multi-billion dollars that it cost the country to care for the magnitude of health problems old smokers face.

PFC David Foster - From 1960 to present the same principle applies. We have new wealthy coming along every year. There is nothing stoping Bill Gates from paying more to the federal government if he wants. I was just pointing out that the wealthy change and arguments about taxiing the wealthy more haven’t changed! I also pointed out “taxing the rich “ often destroying businesses and income for Americans of average income. What ever fantasy world you want to live in is OK, I just know it isn’t founded in reality.

LTC David Brown - I got just one more question for you. If it worked with Eisenhower taxing the very top bracket at 90%, and it worked well, the economy was booming, why won't it work with Biden taxing the very top bracket 43% and people earning 400K, the same amount Bush taxed them, 39.6%. Perhaps 50% for inheritance is too high, the 43%, same as the very top bracket, I'm sure would be plenty. They can afford it. Jeez, we are talking about taxing the upper middle class the same as George W Bush. When I said 50%, I have a tendency to exaggerate to make a point... Anyway, thanks for your civil debate...

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - No doubt about it in my mind... They have repeated it so many times for so long that they believe it... It might have worked for 1 or 2 years after Reagan introduced Trickle Down Economics, but the rich started putting out nets very soon to catch the trickle... they learned quickly how to use the loopholes and pay nothing. All it does is put the entire stress of the tax system on those who can least afford it. Oh sure, the rich love it, why wouldn't they... make billions and pay nothing...
