Generally one of the problems with a profit motive (to be clear, there are a lot of good things with profit motives, this just isn't one of them). Turns out Facebook knows very well how it presents information to us is tearing the US apart and a lot of other countries too. But they look at all that sweet, sweet profit, their eyes get all wide and well...

Facebook has never policed itself. It let Puttie lie like crazy and is even now still being used as a cover for fascist sites. But what I do like is what a young kid, which is the group Zutenburg has been massively trying to court to stay in business, has said that perfectly sums it up. Facebook is for--OLD PEOPLE!!!! The future don't look very bright.

As the political divide widens, the left and right in our nation is as wide as it's ever been. When the right pointed out several of these issues, the left was happy to deride and even deplatform the messengers without even considering the message. The truth is there. Some just chose to ignore it as long as it benefitted their political opinion and gave them that dopamine hit to keep them coming back for more while increasing the profit of a few creating an even larger pay gap of haves and have-nots.

Cpl (Join to see) To be fair there is plenty of that on both the right and the left. The right is more than happy to ignore problems they don't like that the left has been shouting the warning about for decades.
The idea that the "truth is there" always brings up the question, who's truth? That's a large part of the problem. We don't have two sides arguing about different ideologies. That was can handle. We've got people living in entirely different realities with entirely different sets of facts. When that happens the "other side" doesn't just look "wrong" they look crazy.

To be fair, the leadership of those platforms lean left and some on the extreme side of the left.

Cpl (Join to see) - I'd say that overall is true with traditional media sources. I'm not sure it is so true with FaceBook. What they seem mostly concerned with is to do just enough to make it look like they are doing something so they are not regulated.
