On October 6, 1683, 13 Mennonite families from Germany founded Germantown, Philadelphia. An excerpt from the article:
"Encouraged by William Penn’s offer of 5,000 acres of land in the colony of Pennsylvania and the freedom to practice their religion, the first Mennonites arrive in America aboard the Concord. They were among the first Germans to settle in the American colonies."

I had carpet job once, and the salesman said to be careful of our language and smoking because the customer was a Mennonite. As we entered the driveway, there was a large sign that read, Repent or Perish. As we met the owner, he and another guy were telling "risque" jokes. Both were smoking pipes and cajoling. I used to smoke right after the Army, so I asked if it were OK. He said anytime. We got a private installation contract to do all of the homes he built. Great guy.

SGT (Join to see) An Amazing Culture. I remember the Mennonite Store in Harrisonburg, VA. I Remember the Mennonite Family that shared the Room with Granny Sandy when She Had One of Our Children. Although I Know the Insult when they Call Me "English" LOL!
