From what I've read, nobody present knew about or how to use the fire suppression system.

Interesting article, thanks. It appears maintenance, and poor training and practices that go toward good maintenance caused the lion's share of incidents. If I were to guess, this is probably so for many organizations; maintenance isn't sexy and glamorous.
