..."Airlines have dealt with a surge in unruly passengers this year, many of whom oppose mask requirements aboard flights. A survey this summer by the Association of Flight Attendants showed that 85% of attendants had dealt with unruly passengers and that nearly 1 in 5 had experienced physical incidents.

Last month, the Transportation Security Administration announced that it would increase the range of civil penalties for violating federal mask mandates aboard U.S. transportation systems. The penalties are now $500 to $1,000 for a first offense and $1,000 to $3,000 for a second offense."

Absolutely crazy! I thought airlines had stopped inflight liquor service because of things like this, but the article says the man had been drinking. Frankly I don't care what someone thinks their rights are, if a business says a mask is required, you should comply....especially in an airplane.

Sir, I bet we both flew a lot back in the day. I absolutely never ever remember one altercation. This is sad and most of it is over a thing to help keep you alive. Just nuts.

SrA John Monette Actually I think they have banned alcohol on airlines due to COVID but not in the Bars in the Airport Concourse. I strongly suspect because of that People are drinking even More before they Board and that Part of Problem.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Denver is more than halfway on a flight from New York to California so this guy must have been really snockered when he boarded if he did that. Perhaps airlines should consider not letting obviously intoxicated passengers board in the first place given the current atmosphere.
