Why would NCO's who are expert in their job want the battalion commander to come down to them at Battalion and Company level to explain their jobs? They shouldn't want senior leaders in their work place and they should just want to get the job done. That's the way it was my 34 years of service We/I hated micromanagement. I told one of my bosses once, "Why did you assign me this task if you're going to be constantly checking on me and providing input. You may as well do-it-yourself." He didn't approve of my comment but he backed off. After telling me to check my tone. But he stop micromanaging. When I was a NCO I didn't want My platoon leader, platoon sergeant, or muchless for a sergeant or command sergeant major in Myspace. I could handle my team and my armored personnel care without any micromanaging. It sounds like the future military management trait is aiming for micromanaging with a smile. That's not leadership. That's pandoring. I'm not saying you have to be an asshole but you definitely can't be warm and fluffy.
