The National Police Association is calling on bystanders to step in and help if they see an officer being assaulted rather than filming on mobile phones “in the pursuit of likes and attention”.
Thousands of officers are being assaulted on the job each month and police are growing increasingly frustrated with witnesses pulling out their phones rather than lending a hand.

I support this concept.... as long as the police ALSO want us to stop filming and start helping when they are beating suspects. And even then, I am going to have my buddy film for when the cops inevitably turn and start beating me for trying to prevent them from beating someone else - as well as for my defense in the inevitable "assaulting an officer" charges.
You can't have it both ways, cops. Either the crowd steps in, or they don't. And if you want the crowd to step in, you better be ready to lose your "protected" status and your qualified immunity.
I am a STRONG supporter of LEOs. But part of that support is high expectations. If LEOs live up to those expectations - or at least do their level best to live up to them - I will have their back all day, er'day, up to and including taking a beating on their behalf.

I agree with absolutely everything you said! I would go as far as take a bullet for a good cop because I know he would take one for me! At least that is the way it was in my day.
And that is a question that often runs through my rattled brain, if you see a bad cop doing something bad do you step up and try and stop it, along with the possible consequences, or do you stand back and whip out the camera and just film it? At what point do we step in and say enough is enough?

SSgt Ray Stone Here what is? If you meant or attempted to add something it didn’t show. And as a former LEO I fully agree with PFC David Foster. There are too many instances of Police Officers instigating situations that should have never happened!

Twenty years ago I would never of given it a thought to help. But what I read today about fascists, KKK, and white supremist infiltrating our police force and the other cops NOT CALLING THEM OUT pretty much slows my desire to get involved. Not saying I wouldn't jump in because I know who shows up first when you need help, but nowadays, I'd have to see it start. So you cops can thank the right and you're own inaction for this change in me.
