My Grandfather on my dad's side received a citation of valor fighting in Belgium. He told the same story over and over the last 10 years of his life where he was standing in a big field and there were dead bodies covering the ground in every direction as far as he could see. He was promoted up to Captain in the field.

Good history share PO1 William "Chip" Nagel ...! WWI in retrospect was not the "war to end all wars". It was the continuation of worldwide conflict, that stretched from Europe to Asia & the Americas as well.

If you look at the number of years that the world had no major wars going on in recorded history, it ends up at only about 8% of all recorded history, which is roughly 3400 years. And of those years, only 268 of them can be labeled "peaceful".
